Once upon a time, there was a king near Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest, who cherished trees and held them in high esteem.

Every year, he ordered the planting of many trees on the barren lands of his people because he believed that forests safeguarded animals, and in return, the animals protected the forests. These resources were essential for humans.

To emphasize his point, the king would tell his people a story about a forest where all the trees lamented to God.

The trees explained that human beings were afraid of the wild animals living in the forest and stopped visiting. This made the trees feel isolated and vulnerable.

The trees pleaded with God to remove all the wild animals from the forest, which he did.

However, without the animals to protect them, the humans started to come to the forest to cut down the trees without any fear.

Realizing their mistake, the trees asked God to bring the wild animals back to the forest to protect them.

One day, the animals of the forest cried out to God, expressing their inability to move freely due to the abundance of trees in the forest and asked God to remove all the trees.

God granted their request, and all trees and plants were removed from the entire forest.

However, without any trees and plants, hunters were able to trap and kill the animals more easily.

As a result, the animal population declined rapidly. The animals then prayed to God to plant the trees back in the forest.

God responded, saying that animals and plants protect each other and contribute to the earth’s beauty and prosperity.

The moral of the story was that both plants and animals were valuable to one another and added to the beauty and prosperity of the earth. It was the king’s way of convincing people to protect the environment.

Despite the king’s advocacy for tree protection, a farmer once cut down a menudo tree in his farm.

When the king found out, he ordered his guards to arrest the farmer and bring him to court.

After confessing to his wrongdoing, the king punished the farmer by ordering him to plant and nurture ten trees around a large lake each year for the next ten years.

The people of the kingdom praised the king for his unwavering love for trees, and the farmer successfully planted and nurtured a hundred trees over the next decade.
